The biggest impediment to implementing an alternative energy plan that can work for America is the utility system that we currently have. The thought process that governs the system is problematic, in that companies want to make money, and they only way they know how to do that is but consolidating all of the equipment that it takes to make energy in one area. They want to build wind farms and solar farms, so that they can control the production and distribution of power. With this control, they will be able to make money. Because of the space and environmental problems that can be created with the consolidation of the methods of creating energy, the key to alternative energy is to distribute the means of production and use the space that is currently being wasted. By installing solar panels on rooftops and using them as covered parking areas, the energy created can be sent directly to the nearest buildings. Not only does this solve the energy crisis, it helps to alleviate the strain on a deteriorating power infrastructure. The problem for the power utilities is that they will not be in control of the power production or its distribution. Their | ability to make money will be severely restricted. While this plan is the best for our nation, it doesn’t work for the utilities that have provided power for the past century. Either they will need to change, or we will face a crisis of consolidated power and no way to distribute it, and democracy is about distributing power. |
